Our Vision & Values

‘To deliver high quality and distinctive educational services that reflect our community.’

The Genesis Education Trust (GET) is a collaborative partnership between the Church of England schools of St Mary’s and St Saviour’s in Walthamstow and St Margaret’s in Barking, forming an Independent Church Multi-Academy Trust (MAT). Our mission is to strengthen the unity and impact of Church of England schools across East London by delivering the exceptional educational provision for which we are renowned.

At GET, we place a deep emphasis on fostering strong, vibrant community involvement. Recent Outstanding SIAMS (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools) reports have praised how each of our schools excels in providing a holistic education that nurtures the intellectual, spiritual, physical, social and emotional development of children and their families, all firmly rooted in Christian values. This dedication to whole-child education is central to our identity and is reflected in the high levels of satisfaction from our school communities.

Our academic achievements are a testament to this commitment. Year after year, pupils in our schools consistently exceed both national and local authority benchmarks by the end of Key Stage 2. They achieve high standards across the curriculum, with particular strength in core subjects. We are proud that the majority of our pupils make exceptional progress and this is a direct result of our unwavering dedication to ensuring that both pupils and staff can realise their full potential. At the heart of our ethos is the belief that excellence can be achieved through the distinctiveness of our Christian framework and values.

At Genesis Education Trust, we are committed to delivering a curriculum that fosters deeper learning experiences, challenging pupils to think critically and explore concepts in greater depth. Our carefully designed curriculum engages pupils at every level, encouraging curiosity and providing the skills and knowledge necessary for both academic success and life beyond school. By creating a stimulating learning environment, we aim to cultivate independent thinkers who can apply their knowledge in new and unfamiliar contexts, preparing them for the complexities of the modern world.

A key focus of our curriculum is the integration of cross-curricular links, allowing pupils to make meaningful connections between subjects and see the relevance of their learning to real-world situations. We emphasise inquiry-based learning, encouraging pupils to ask questions, engage with diverse perspectives and develop their analytical skills. This holistic approach ensures that our pupils are not only challenged but also deeply engaged in their education, fully equipped to excel as they move forward in their educational journey.

All schools within Genesis Education Trust have been proudly granted School of Sanctuary status, reflecting our commitment to creating welcoming, inclusive environments where all children, including those from refugee and asylum-seeking backgrounds, feel safe and valued. This prestigious recognition means that our schools actively foster a culture of understanding and compassion, ensuring that every pupil, regardless of their circumstances, receives the support they need to thrive. We are dedicated to promoting respect, celebrating diversity and providing a nurturing space where pupils can engage with their education free from prejudice and fear, helping to build a more inclusive school community.

For over a decade, the staff at Genesis Education Trust have been actively supporting schools both within and beyond our network. St Mary’s Primary School, was previously designated as a teaching school, a prestigious recognition of its role as a beacon of educational leadership. Through this role, St Mary’s became a hub of expertise, providing targeted support to schools in need of improvement. As a teaching school and through the Trust’s work, we have helped raise educational standards in the wider education community.

The impact of our outreach extends well beyond individual interventions. With a National Leader of Education (NLE) and a team of Specialist Leaders of Education (SLEs) across multiple disciplines, we provided comprehensive support to schools at all stages of their improvement journey. Our tailored support is designed to meet the unique needs of each school we work with by providing high-quality instructional guidance. Our collaborative approach includes co-developing resources, refining teaching methods and embedding effective assessment practices that drive pupil achievement across the curriculum. In addition, we empower staff through tailored professional development programmes that build confidence in addressing diverse learning needs. By supporting teachers in implementing evidence-based strategies and differentiated instruction, we help them deliver impactful lessons and interventions that enhance learning outcomes.

Our support extends beyond the classroom, helping schools strengthen leadership and governance structures. We offer targeted mentoring for senior leaders, enabling them to refine their strategic vision and improve operational effectiveness. This has been particularly successful in schools rated as ‘requires improvement,’ guiding them swiftly toward ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ results. Moreover, we collaborate with schools to develop positive, inclusive cultures by implementing effective behaviour management strategies. By addressing issues related to behaviour, attendance and emotional well-being, we help schools create environments where both staff and pupils can flourish.

What sets our outreach apart is our commitment to building capacity within the schools we support. Rather than focusing solely on short-term fixes, we aim to leave schools stronger, more resilient and fully equipped to sustain their improvements over time. Our influence is felt through formal partnerships, consultancy work and informal mentoring, ensuring that innovative and effective teaching methods are shared and adopted widely across the educational landscape. This has had a significant impact on raising the overall quality of education, fostering sustainable system-wide improvements across the region.

The Genesis Education Trust was recently ranked second nationally and the highest in London in a government league table measuring the effectiveness of multi-academy trusts, out of a field of 1,157 trusts. This recognition underscores the hard work, dedication and expertise of our staff, who consistently deliver a rich and diverse curriculum. Alongside academic excellence, our schools offer a wide array of enriching activities, educational visits and extracurricular opportunities that ensure our pupils are well-rounded and prepared for life beyond school.

In summary, Genesis Education Trust remains at the forefront of educational improvement, driven by a mission to foster excellence through collaboration and community-focused leadership. Our commitment to outreach ensures that our expertise continues to elevate educational standards across the sector, making a meaningful difference to children’s lives both within and beyond our own schools.
